036. um best picture anyone?

Okay so I’ve never been big on the Oscars (except for the year of Brokeback Mountain, tear) but this year, I’ve watched (without really knowing) several of the Best Picture nominees. With only a few more to knock out I figured hey, this year why not watch all of them so that when the time comes I can actually get emotional about the winner (cause it probably won’t be one I like).

So with that being said I’ve decided to post a little about each of the ones I’ve seen so that when the time comes and I’m making almost husband stream it for me on his computer, I’ll be able to see what my thoughts were. Rave on.

Black Swan

As a former (wow, I can say former now?) dancer I was really eager to watch this, plus I always am convinced that Natalie Portman can do no wrong. I still stand by that statement. This movie was effed up, but in a good way. The only thing I didn’t like it is that it is yet another movie that portrays dancers as being really down on their body types and feeling the constant pressure to be thin. I’m not saying that it isn’t out there, but honestly not all dancers have an eating disorder! Gah. Anyway, all in all I really enjoyed the film and thought it had a lot of great aspects to it.

True Grit

Ever since I saw the trailer for this I really wanted to see it. I watched it from the comfort of my bed this weekend (shh). I really enjoyed it but to be honest it wasn't as action packed or dramatic as I'd anticipated. It was still very good and Jeff Bridges was phenomenal...I laughed more than I expected whih is always a good thing.

The Social Network

Ah, everyone's favorite. Personally I don't see this as winning, but it probably will according to polls. Almost husband and I went to see this in theaters and it made me go "aw Zack..." because he is a genius. I really did enjoy the flick (bummed Timberlake didn't even get a nod at all) overall, I guess I just don't see what all the fuss is about? Almost husband used these exact words, "It was just a really well made film". I guess I agree...I just don't know much about these things.

The Fighter

Bah. Not much to say about it. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, but it was a good film and I can see how it was nominated. I thought that Christian Bale completely crushed Mark Wahlberg though in terms of best acting. There, I said it.

Inception

This has to be one of the best films I saw this year (after HP7 which unfortunately wasn't nominated in this category), and I think it should be a contender in this race. It was extremely well acted, well filmed, everything. The story line was intriguing and had you talking for days after. This may be my favorite.

Toy Story 3

WHO DIDN'T CRY AT THIS MOVIE????? That's all.

The films I haven't seen yet...
127 Hours
The King’s Speech
Winter’s Bone
The Kids Are All Right

...I will elaborate on when the time comes. None of them really jump out at me unfortunately.

Gah this post took me three days to write, Jordan.

  1. I can't read this post until I see some of these movies, I don't want to spoil it for myself. And I'm going to quit my job, join the police academy and become a homicide detective. Finally, I have gas.
