it's friday, friday

How about a few more of my favorite music videos, eh?

REM...Imitation Of Life

As a teenager I would watch VH1 with conviction. Every morning (and all night) it would be playing in the background of whatever I happened to be doing (when I wasn't watching the WB of course, duh). This video played a vital role in my teenage years. Funny thing is, it is basically a 30 second shot of one scene that is so large it can turn into a 3 minute video by just focusing in on different parts of the shindig taking place before your eyes.

Radiohead...Karma Police

Another video I just thought was so cool when I was a teenager. I didn't appreciate the amazingness of Radiohead until many years later, but this video got it started. I learned recently that the concept for this video was offered to Marilyn Manson and he turned it down? Weird.

Nsync...I Drive Myself Crazy

Oh man, my teen years were sporatic. I throw in Nsync with the two amazing artists REM and Radiohead....? YES I DO. Because this video was so great and addicting and the epitome of J. Timberlakes ramen noodle 'do, though I had more of a liking toward Lance Bass. Go figure.

It's the freaking weekend you guys!

it's friday, friday

The weekend is finally here. I am relieved, but at least this week I woke up before 8am most days which is productive considering last week I basically slept in and was late the majority of the week. Good times.

This week I thought I'd share four of my favorite music videos (leaving out the obvious Thriller). Now, these are not my favorite songs, not at all, but for some reason all of these videos have stuck with me.

First I guess I should ask, do people remember music videos? Do bands even still make music videos (I know the answer to this. Yes. Katy Perry makes videos featuring Hanson, Rebecca Black, one of the Corey's and Debbie Gibson...oh yeah and Kenny G). My friend Missy had this amazing VHS just full of music videos from the 80's and 90's and we would put it on and watch it for hours. Twisted Sister, lots of Weird Al and MJ, Ugly Kid Joe, Van Halen, Nirvana, Alanis...the list goes on and on. I wish I could track that down as well as a VHS player and sit in front of the tube and just stare.

Okay, to the list.

Simple Plan...Untitled

Yeah, I'll admit it. A Simple Plan video made this list. I enjoyed them during my pop-punk days but they weren't even in my top five favorites. But this video is brilliantly constructed and really sad, you guys.

And I won't lie, I find myself singing this in my car a lot.

Everybody (Backstreet's Back)...Backstreet Boys

Because I'm 12. I was OBSESSED with this when I was that age, I couldn't get enough of how "risque" it was even if it isn't.

30 Seconds To Mars...The Kill

Because one of my favorite scary movies of all time is The Shining I love how this video payed tribute to that movie, and in a very unique way. Good job, Leto.

And lastly I'm gonna use a cover. Now unlike practically everyone else, I love cover songs, even the bad ones. This is one of my favorites...

Metallica...Turn The Page

Metallica's take on Bob Segar's classic...interesting twist they take.

Happy weekending, y'all.

"i've been so happy loving you..." - my top 5

I get really excited when two things I love combine...television and music. Now, I'm not talking about the long defunct Music Television (sorry I don't care if you're 16 and Pregnant), but I am talking about fake tv show bands. Yes. How is there not a compilation of all of the fabulous fake tv bands out there? I'm going to make one. Yep. And then organize the next Woodstock 2012: FAKE TV BANDS. And now, I can't think of 9 that I can talk about endlessly so this will just be a top 5 list.

5. Dingoes Ate My Baby (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

Ah, even as a new Buffy fan, this band has already made an impact. Maybe it's Seth Green rocking the bass or the belly shirts worn by the lead singer...I cannot decide.

4. Mystic Spiral (Daria)

Where they almost changed their name to Helpful Corn while on the way to Alternapalooza, Mystic Spiral will have a soft spot in my 13 year old heart. They were so edgy.

3. The Whits/Jim Valenti and the Kit Shickers (Roswell)

I still wouldn't mind being Maria De Luca. And how adorable is baby Colin Hanks? Man, The Whits we're an awesome band, too bad they only showed up in one episode.

And for whatever reason I cannot find one single video of Jim Valenti and the Kit Shickers, be it their rendition of If I Had A Million Dollars or Paradise By The Dashboard Light, but I assure you when a 50-something year old ex-sheriff decides to start a lounge band I'm on board.

2. Zack Attack (Saved By The Bell)

Zack Attack - Friends Forever by ray548

So speaking as Zack Morris's youngest ex-girlfriend (we dated in my mind my entire childhood), I have always felt a special connection to this song. I was enveloped in the world where Zack Attack ruled the world, and how could they not? Plus, I really wanted to wear Kelly's sparkle dress.

1. Jesse and the Rippers (Full House)

For some reason this video always creeped me out, but there is no doubt that the song is a classic and fantastically done. Even if they are a fake band, we will all love Jesse and the Rippers...forever.

Honorable mention? 2Gether. I will never get sick of this song.
