Where did the name Shiny Paper come from?
My mom. She used to write little notes around the house for stuff we needed each week before composing her full grocery list. She couldn't spell tinfoil (but really, who can) so she opted for shiny paper. Those two words together will probably always mean something to me so here it is.
So, Jordan drink's Tab is the name of your television recap? Makes no sense. Why?
Honestly, it makes little sense to me, but it is what it is. When I got my Instagram account about a year after everyone else, the name I typically go by on social media (thatjordangirl) was taken. So I was drinking a Tab, and there you have it. I still check for "thatjordangirl" to open up and I'll snag it the second it does, but for now it works. Now how it became the name of the column...originally I was going to call it "Coffee with Jordan" or something relevant to a morning talk show where they sit around drinking coffee and chatting about pop culture, but as much as I love coffee I would probably opt for a Tab. And alas.
BTW, try TaB if you haven't yet, it rules!
When did you start watching so much television?
Weirdly enough television has always been a part of my life. From T.G.I.F in the 90's and far beyond. I think my first official "obsession" was Saved By The Bell. Our babysitter was really into it and would watch it each day and somehow I just caught on. I think that's also what led to my Golden Girls obsession which came that same time, when I was about nine. I have no idea what I had in common ladies but I could not get enough. Then when I was fourteen my friend Regina discovered this show, you may never have heard of it, Roswell that was on the WB. That was probably the most hardcore of any obsession I've had to this day (so much that I have a Roswell tattoo, it matches my Star Trek one). You couldn't even reach me Monday nights, I would record every episode and memorize it until the next week when a new one aired. It still holds strong and is among my favorites and you can ask anyone that went to my high school and that's probably what they'll associate knowing me with.
Does your television obsession annoy the people you know in real life?
Yes. Most of them. All of them. But they know that's just how I am.
