it's friday, friday

Well I haven't done one of these in a while but I could not pass this up. Seriously. Rebecca Black is back. And this song is actually good. I mean this, not ironically in the least. And she makes the best fun of Friday.

Here's Saturday.

It's also Friday the 13th!

Sup fools.

So I started watching Chuck as my fun show this week. Bout time, I figured. So far I am absolutely LOVING it, but more importantly (or not I guess) I am loving the music. As an avid fan of The OC I can totally see the influence of Josh Schwartz and McG. I've loved this song before Chuck and I knew it was included on the show but had no idea so soon so it was quite enjoyable to hear it within the first handful of episodes. And I've posted about the song before, but some things are worth repeating.

Better late than never, right? Yesterday was Halloween and though I'm certainly ready to flood your feed with Christmas music I will refrain at least for one, maybe two more weeks. So lets just get back to basics for a bit, shall we? I watched Scream last night while passing out candy. One of the recurring songs through all four of the movies is this little gem right here. Enjoy!

Up a little late today, apologies. I came across this AMAZING video this morning. It's a Breaking Bad ice skating tribute and it's phenomenal. It's not at all cheesy, its talented and very beautiful. Give it a shot.

One of my favorite spooky tracks I discovered this year. I've only liked a few versions of this song with all of the covers that are out there, and this one currently tops the list.

Alright haters. I LIKE MILEY, even if this video verges on creepy and porn. The song and her voice is still ridiculous in a good way. So just hit play and then minimize the page and go about your internet perusing.

This song has creeped into my life this week and I find it strangely amazing. I'm not a huge fan of the song (though it was one of my Uncle John's favorite and it was played at his funeral so it will always hold a special place in my heart) and I can't even say I'm a HUGE Dolly Parton fan (though I do like quite a few songs in her catalogue) but somehow the two together make my ears smile.

I think I'm going to do a seance this weekend and try to talk to the ghost in my house.

The singer of this band is right....they just don't write like that anymore.

Obessed with this song...probably one of their two hits but I cannot believe more people do not know it. It's amazing to groove to.

LISTEN TO IT. LISTEN TO IT. LISTEN TO IT.
LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT.

And what's more patriotic than Fleetwood Mac? Okay, a lot of things, but at about 4:15 this gets real. Like really real. So real that when I was 11 and I saw this concert for the first time (my mother had it recorded from the television and I think we watched it at least twice a week) I knew exactly how pissed off Stevie Nicks was and I had no idea how love and relationships worked, I just knew that something had gone down and it wasn't good. That being said, it gave me chills.

Still does.

I could sit and watch these Time Life commercials over and over again and I knew them by heart...especially Sounds Of The 70's.

So here are a few of my favorites.

I truly know most of these songs in the same succession as they appear in this commercial. If they come on the radio I only can sing the five second clip.

Who didn't want to go all new age-y and listen to Pure Moods?

These two men love their Freedom Rock.

THE BUZZ.

And the ever-amazing Monster Ballads.

You're welcome.

Yesterday was Mary Kate and Ashley's birthday. If you don't already know, I think I was Mary Kate in a previous life. That makes Michael Doxey my Ashley. So why not some songs from their musical days?

I may have loved fake Bill Clinton.

I distinctly remember wanting to be...Ashley. I think it was the pursing of the lips, she was so dainty.

So I suggest basically skipping this post if you do not want your childhood ruined. Seriously, go away now and you'll retain your innocence.

You have been warned.

So while not discussing 90's music this week, Zack brought to my attention that one of my beloved 90's favorites is about crystal meth. And this song is super radio friendly, you'd be hard-pressed to find a person that doesn't know it, granted I bet they only know part of the lyrics. Because it's happy and fast and rambled and I had absolutely no idea what they were singing about until I read the lyrics and realized how painfully obvious it was. BUT THIS SONG IS ABOUT CRYSTAL METH. It even says CRYSTAL METH in it, but it's blurred out carefully when you hear it on the radio. It's on line with The Verve Pipe's The Freshman which I thought was the most depressing song of the 90's (well, okay it still is), but this is up there.

Have fun, here's Third Eye Blind. I'm not including the lyrics except for in the video so if you don't want to watch, you can find them here.

We are taking it back to the 90's. The country 90's. Or, the Garth 90's, which is more accurate. Someone uploaded a bazillion videos of Garth's super early and awkward performances recently on youtube (trust me, I know they're new because when I tried to find the performance from the 1991 Academy of Country Music Awards I used to have recorded on VHS as a child it was nowhere to be found and it still isn't) and I had a field day posting all of these.

This is the closest performance I could find to the aforementioned performance. It's roughly the same concept. Cheesy and awful and kind of uncomfortable to watch but oh it's Garth so who cares.

And then this gem of his first television performance on AM Oklahoma.

I remember watching his performance of Shameless where he always held a rose.

His ever-so-controversial The Thunder Rolls song. Gah.

HOLY CRAP I FOUND IT HOLY CRAP. You know how I know? Reba introducing him. I used to have her monologue memorized.

And not even kidding you, the girl with the blonde feathered hair and bangs? I so wanted to be her.

I die.

Let's also take a moment to appreciate Reba's fringe.

Also, please make note of a few things.

1. His colorful shirts
2. His piercing expressions
3. He is polite and tips his hat

I will probably watch that last performance nineteen more times.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me.

It's been a 90's kind of week for me (isn't it always though? Lets be honest...) and while working on a huge project at the day job I have been rocking the Pandora. What? Spotify? Yeah, I am behind but it's okay. That being said, where it is the beginning of summer and I am on yet another 90's music kick, here is my favorite 90's summer band...obviously.

This is a beautiful song and by FAR one of my favorites to listen to on the drive home.

It feels like this week would never end. Not for any negative reason but wow. To be honest, I've pretty much been terrible at sleeping, so maybe we'll try the new sleep schedule/morning writing next week, eh?

In the meantime, because I haven't slept, here is a song I like to fall asleep to. Maybe I should try it. It's foreign, but it will help you reach your REM cycle.

Happy Friday, y'all.
