solstice // a feast of friends

I'm sure everyone saw the rad moon on Saturday night? My phone does not take the most optimal pictures so this grainy shot is the best I could do, but it looks better on here than it did on Instagram.

I'm not sure how much I believe in astrology, star signs, moon shifts, and the solstice however it is this time of year that I try to. I found out yesterday that Jim Morrison is also a Sagittarius. I feel that's cool because he was quite philosophical however also a little scary because as my mother would say, he "pickled" himself and died at 27. At least I'm almost through this year so that keeps me positive.

For that I'm going to share one of my favorite poems of his. I've been listening to his readings on Spotify in the mornings (hashtag granola) but either way I have come to appreciate him more as an artist.

A Feast Of Friends

Staring at me from the TV
Tower, I want roses in
my garden bower; dig?
Royal babies, rubies
must now replace aborted
Strangers in the mud
These mutants, blood-meal
for the plant that's plowed.

They are waiting to take us into
the severed garden
Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful
comes death on a strange hour
unannounced, unplanned for
like a scaring over-friendly guest you've
brought to bed
Death makes angels of us all
and gives us wings
where we had shoulders
smooth as raven's
claws

No more money, no more fancy dress
This other kingdom seems by far the best
until it's other jaw reveals incest
and loose obedience to a vegetable law.

I will not go
Prefer a Feast of Friends
To the Giant Family.

ode to my blackberry

For seven years we've been best friends
You've served my every need
You taught me how to properly text
on the keyboard called QWERTY
I stood by you though the darkest of times
When everyone said "peace out"
You were my indestructable brick
I knew what you were about
But recently my thoughts have changed
When I upgraded to new
No longer did you reach the bar
It made me feel so blue.
So at this time I say goodbye
Because I've felt so alone
My replacement comes in the mail today
I welcome you Iphone

...and that has made all the difference

I had to memorize this poem for 11th grade english. It is one of the few things that has stuck with me through high school. It is one of my favorites and absolutely beautiful.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
