room 237

It has been decided that my favorite movie is The Shining. Mostly Kubrick terrifies me which is surprising that I adore this film as much as I do, but there you have it. Its essentially on repeat every day in October, though I can throw it in the DVD player any day of the year and find it fitting. I've never once been tired of it. I'm still not even sure I understand it, but I know it is love.

That being said, I heard about the documentary Room 237 about a year ago and forgot about it. I figured I'd find it in time when it surfaced, but this weekend, a little bird named Michael Doxey told me that it was available to stream online and that was it. What a way to lose a few hours.

It tells other people's what I like to call, theories, on the production behind the movie. What was Kubrick going for, if anything? There are so many perspectives that these different individuals take that it's beyond interesting. Some of them seem a little far-fetched, and some I felt were "reaching" but there were some theories that made me take a step back and go "yeah, maybe that is why this and this happened. Okay."

So if you're into theories or the movie or any of the above, check it out. If not, Jack Nicholson will haunt your dreams.

  1. What if Kubrick was really just punk'ing us all? I think that may be the case. He got the last laugh!
