As we sat last on the couch, before indulging in our nightly viewing of Breaking Bad, Mr. Shutt was playing his UFC fighter game and I was playing online poker. This was a true story*. As we played our respective games, I started feeling singy (it happens). I really wanted to make popcorn but was not wanting to walk all. the. way. upstairs. to make some, so instead I settled on singing some Celine Dion.
I have a really good voice**.
I felt very good about singing It's All Coming Back To Me Now which is one of my go-to shower songs. THERE WERE NIGHTS WHEN THE WIND WAS SOOOOO COLD. Ah, it makes me feel really good even just TYPING that in all CAPITALS.
I then realized something.
I haven't sang in my car for a really, really long time.
Mostly this is because I've been on a "new music" kick lately. Let me elaborate, I haven't been listening to actual "new" music. I couldn't tell you half of the artists on radio today, the last "new" music I listened to was a song by Nicki Minaj that should remain nameless and I only heard it because Zack was obsessed with it for about three days. Actually, I have been listening to all sorts of old music (60's, 70's and 80's) which is basically new to me.
I was raised on classic rock and country so most of these songs I'm a bit familiar with it, however it bothered me that my ipod was seriously lacking in the "essential music for all types" department. I was really low on John Denver and Jefferson Airplane and The Byrds. It pained me, so I decided I needed to make a change. I added about 3000 songs to my library, all top notch music according to most "Greatest Albums Of The Last 50 Years" lists. I was pretty proud of myself. So I have been slowly listening to all that I have acquired, most which I have not perfected in my shower voice yet, therefore I have not been singing. And because of that, poor Zack has to suffer through my ridiculous Celine Dion show not once but twice. Oh the agony he must be feeling.
I think today I shall take a break from the new/old music I have and put in some Britney Spears. Or maybe Whitney Houston? That may be appropriate though I will never be able to even touch where her vocals can reach. Sad day.
