Today was a good day. Such a good day in fact that I feel compelled to dedicate an entire blog post to it. Today was a day of snow in Utah. I realize that doesn't seem like anything fantastic (doesn't it say "greatest snow on earth" on our license plates?) but considering the lack of we've had this year I woke up thrilled.
Now like good kids, Zack and I were planning on going to the gym. However, the thought of staying in comfies just a tad bit longer was much more inviting. We sat around discussing the days plans and whatnot when the idea of sledding came up.
"It's a sledding day, I think." That was Zack and I had to look up to make sure he really said that.
"Oh yeah? I guess it could be. Is that something you want to do today?" He smiled the biggest smile ever at me which signified that plans were just made, I had no say. Fine by me, I suggested we invited his little sister to tag along. I knew she'd enjoy the fun.
A few hours later my father in law, Dale, dropped off Zack's little sister Daushalee at our driveway. I was inside getting ready and Zack was outside shoveling the walk (I had even offered to help and he told me to stay inside and be warm. Aw). When I went outside to say hello I was greeted with Daushalee thrusting four dvds at me.
"Would you mind taking these inside and setting them somewhere where the dogs won't get them?"
I'd barely had time to answer before she grabbed an additional snow shovel and went about her business. I went inside and set these four dvds on the top of our bookshelf, but not without stealing a glance. No surprise here, four Harry Potter dvds.
To backtrack a bit, in the last few months, Dausha has gotten really into Harry Potter. She now does not leave the house without the dvds in tow, it's really very adorable. I was happy to oblige her, having my own Harry Potter obsession. I placed them on the shelf with great care.
I made my way to the backyard which is where Zack and Dausha had proceeded to. They were throwing snowballs with the dogs and having a marvelous time. It wasn't too long before everyone got cold and we took shelter in the kitchen. Shortly after, our stomachs were hungry and lunch was the next way to go. Lunch went as planned with a little sadness over Dausha not being able to take home her rootbeer bottle, but once we purchased the sled and she saw the vast snow hill before her she was just fine.
Now when we arrived at the hill it had barely been touched. I found this enjoyable. It's not that I don't enjoy playing with other kids, but I want to be able to biff it and not look like an idiot. It's the only way I can sled in peace. Little by little others started showing up and I started sledding less and less.
"If you're a mom you have to play with other families, it's just how it goes." Zack knew how to make me see reason.
"I'm awkward around children," was my reply. Clearly I need to get over this before I become a mom, right? Right.
After a few treks down the hill we'd worn out our welcome and decided to press on. At that moment Daushalee realized that she was cold so to make her feel better I fell in the snow. Literally just fell over in the spot I was standing and sprawled out. I could feel the children behind me snickering and staring at me with their little eyes, but it was worth it to see the joy in my little sis in law's face.
After I dried out my wet jeans (I HATE WET JEANS) we came home and cozied up. I probably should have taken a nap but I couldn't get tired enough for slumber, which is really weird for me. We have some fun times ahead this weekend and tomorrow I have laundry to do. I hate laundry, it is really my most loathed chore. If I could have someone just to do laundry I swear I would clean my house top to bottom every week. No, I probably wouldn't but I'd sure try.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable Saturday. I didn't plan on writing this weekend but sometimes you just have a great day and it needs to be recorded. Hopefully I will get over my fear of kids making fun of me. One can only hope.
What a great day <3 I've still yet to see snow this year!
