165. my clothing choices are life choices

Today as I was going to lunch a co-worker posed this question to me: "How many pairs of boots do you own?" I laughed.

The thing is I do own several pairs of boots, most of which I have purchased because I've seen them worn fabulously on the internet. 3 black (heel, flat, ugg-like), 3.5 brown (heel, flat, ugg-like and the pair I have to keep taping because I can't throw them away, they're too cute), 1 red (flat) and 1 grey (ugg-like), but out of those I wear two on a regular basis. Sometimes I wear the brown uggish ones around home as slippers because my dog has destroyed the heel, and I have worn them to Target a few times, but Target will always accept me for who I am.

It got me to thinking about clothing and the fact that I actually do have some style. Thing is, the style is not mine, it is the style of every fashion blogger, pinterest pinner, hipster, hippie, boho, MK Olsen and Carrie Bradshaw wanna-be out there. I am a fake, a poseur (with the glasses to prove it). I am okay with that, but it must be said, so people don't go saying I'm trying to be a fashionista. I will never be a fashionista nor do I try to claim I am one.

For the record, my husband HATES my fake glasses (mostly because he thinks I am trying to be Zooey Deschanel (which I am, so what? Everyone wants to be her)) but also because they match his actual glasses that he needs to see. He has always called me a hipster and I have always resented but lately I've just accepted it because regardless, it's who I am and my style is fun, even if it's everyone elses style, too.

Fall is when I start to get really excited about clothes. I hate spring and summer. I could completely do without spring and one and a half months of summer would be just dandy. I'll take maybe two months of winter and the rest should have pretty, crunchy leaves for me to step on in my boots. I get to bust out my scarves and my hats and sweaters and practice layering and looking homeless. It's really tough and I'm starting to wonder how I got dressed without copying people from the internet. Then I realize I looked terrible when I didn't copy people because realistically I have no style on my own. But we've gone over that.

We all do it. Even the fashion bloggers have admitted to copying styles, so is it really a bad thing? There have been times where two celebrities show up at an event in the same dress (or even a similar one) and it's considered a travesty. Is it really that big of a deal? Almost anything can be traced back as a rip off of something that came before it, but I guess if you were promised a one-of-a-kind gown, you should probably get your money back. I will probably never have that problem.

In closing I will probably get over copying style of the ladies of the internet at some point in my life, probably when I am rocking mom jeans, unless someone starts a fashion blog about that and if they do I am so there.
