146. born to make you happy

This morning I was awoken to Husband making the ultimate 90's playlist (Will Smith, Britney Spears when she was really good, Backstreet Boys, TLC, Counting Crows, Hootie & The Blowfish, Smash Mouth, Barenaked Ladies) and while I'm not sure why he was doing this, I was really happy that he did. Waking up to Steven Page's voice telling me "hhhit's beeeen one weeks since you looked at me" is epic.

Then, the Britney "...Baby One More Time" album came on and we decided to listen to it in its entirety. It takes me back to a time where I was about 13-14 and husband was, well, 9-10. Aw, age difference. Anyway, listening to the song Born To Make You Happy made me realize something, and it compelled me to start a new segment in my blog. Some people do challenges, I do weird segments about music from my childhood but that is not where I'm going with this...today I'm introducing:

What Would Dorothy Zbornak Do?

via

Dorothy Zbornak - to me - is probably the best character on tv. She is hardcore, and independent and she won't take no crap. I figure, I will take little things that annoy me and see how Ms. Zbornak would respond to it, because her methods are what is right with the world.

If Dorothy heard this Britney Spears song she would throw up. Basically saying that you're only lot in life is to make a man happy? Don't get her wrong, making your partner happy is a great and an amazing thing, to live solely for that purpose is not okay with her (Dorothy is a feminist, you see). You should go to college, you should get a really good job where you get to boss a bunch of men around, you shouldn't completely wait on your husband (unless he does it in return, then of course, it's okay). Dorothy would tell Britney that she wasn't born to make him happy, or eventually be a slave for him, but that she needs to gain her own perspective.

Considering that song was around 1998-1999 I'm sure Dorothy would be proud with how Britney turned out, y'all.
